EHCI'98 - Call for papers

                         IFIP Working Conference on
                 Engineering for Human-Computer Interaction

ORGANISATION

The 7th IFIP Working Conference on Engineering for Human-Computer
Interaction (EHCI'98) will take place at the Knossos Royal Village, in
Heraklion, Crete Greece. It is a single-track conference organised by IFIP
Working Group 2.7 (13.4). Participation is limited to 60 persons and will
be by invitation: authors of accepted papers will be expected to
participate. Others may attend by invitation of the General Chair. Accepted
papers will be included in the Conference Proceedings, published by Chapman
and Hall.

TOPICS

The conference is intended to bring together those interested in
strengthening the engineering and scientific foundations of user interface
development.

Papers are solicited on the functional requirements for human-computer
interaction, and on the design, implementation and management issues
involved in satisfying the requirements.

Topics of particular interest are:

   * Software engineering aspects of user interfaces, such as:
        o architectures;
        o formal models of user interfaces; e.g. safety critical systems;
        o reuse of software components;
        o impact of distribution on user interfaces;
        o portability, consistency and integrability;
        o development processes;
        o case studies.
   * User interface tools and techniques in areas such as:
        o adaptive and customizable systems;
        o intelligent interfaces;
        o world wide web;
        o role of Java;
        o evaluation of user interfaces: technologies and tools.
   * Innovative user interfaces:
        o mobile/ubiquitous/wearable computing;
        o information visualization and navigation;
        o multimedia and multimodal user interfaces;
        o perceptual user interfaces; e.g. sensing and tracking systems;
        o computer supported cooperative work (CSCW systems and models);
        o virtual reality; e.g. VRML;
        o augmented reality.

Electronic submission will also be possible. Note that the electronic
submission deadline is one week earlier than the paper deadline. When
electronic submissions are received, the programme co-chairs will determine
if they are in a suitable format. If not, authors will be given the option
of resubmitting hard copies. On acceptance electronic format will be
required: Word6 or PDF.
